The Devil Judge
In a future dystopian South Korea, filled with corruption, will a rookie prosecutor and a police officer be able to fight against the system and the “Devil Judge”, if the need be, to get justice?
This drama is set in the backdrop of a dystopian futuristic South Korea where corruption is rampant and only the wealthy have the right to “justice”. The idea of true justice for all is a concept that does not exist in this world. When an honest rookie prosecutor joins the courtroom of the most popular head judge widely known as called “Devil Judge”, of the highest court in South Korea, he tries his best to fight for what is right. Supporting him in his fight for justice is his childhood best friend, who is also a police officer. As they get to know the devil judge better, they start realizing that there are a lot of mysteries surrounding him, and deciding whether he is good or bad might be trickier than they ever anticipated. The rest of the story follows the story of how all of them try to right the wrongs and work towards a better society, in their own ways.
I found this drama to be quite unique in its plot, and the way the dystopian world is portrayed in it is quite intriguing. Right from the beginning, the story highlights the shades of gray that exist in our society and how no single person is truly good or bad. It is in fact, the circumstances and our choices, that often shape who and what we end up becoming. There is a great depth of emotion that is shown here. The happy moments are incredibly sweet, the sad moments are gut-wrenching and the moments when justice is met out, feel like we were the ones who got justice. Overall, this drama manages to pull you into every single emotion and experience them deeply as if it’s your own. The acting of every single actor, whether playing the hero or villain, moves you. When you finish watching this drama, you will be left with contradictory feelings about what is right and what is wrong. This drama makes you think about things that we often ignore, and makes us realize that no one is inherently bad. I would say, watch this one just because it’s a unique plot with a depth of emotions that is quite a rare find in today’s world.
